What do a cucumber, an old sock, and an electric toothbrush have in common? Well they’re all fed up being used for things they aren’t meant for and have decided to team up and speak out about it. In Pornhub’s newest advertisement for their new line of sex toys, and continuing to do its part in advocating for sexual wellness, this campaign will convince you to stop using household objects for your own pleasure and get the real deal.


The campaign is created with ad agency called BETC, and is centered around a short 2 minute video where household objects such as an electric toothbrush, an old sock, shower head, vacuum and more sing to a parody of BloodHound Gang’s “The Bad Touch.” The music video, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the original track, was directed by Iconoclast’s rising star and Instagram influencer Alice Moitié who won the 2019 Young Director Award in France and was listed by Elle magazine as one of the 50 young people

shaking up creativity in the country. Her photographic work has seen her capture iconic pop stars like Miley Cyrus and A$AP Rocky. As a future female leader of the French film scene, Moitié doesn’t shy away from sex-positive work as when asked in an interview, Moitié said, “As soon as I heard the idea, and that the client was Pornhub, I was in!”

Moving onto the actual ad, as all these household objects come together, they sing about how they aren’t supposed to be used as sex toys and how there are better alternatives to that than what they are. The video ends with a box of Pornhub’s newest line of sex toys and the household objects crying out “We’re saved!” The campaign also offers consumers a chance to try and guess one of the 250 “household items you shouldn’t use for sex” on the campaign site to receive a unique discount code for up to 30% off a purchase. The creative director of the project, David Martin Angelus talks about the incredible amount of research they did for this project. He talks about how “We scanned hundreds of articles and forums online to find the wildest objects that had been used as sex toys. It’s amazing what people will have sex with when there isn’t a sex toy handy, especially in the current climate of shelter in place.”


I would say that the target audience for this campaign would be anyone who is sexually active or interested. It’s hard to discriminate against certain groups for an advertisement campaign such as this as it’s a normal human action to want to feel sexual pleasure. I also like how they made their campaign interactive with how you could go onto the campaign website and guess for one of the 250 household items you shouldn’t use for sex to get a discount. This provides a fun aspect to the already hilarious campaign.


When I saw this campaign in adsoftheworld, I was surprised. I didn’t know Pornhub had ever made ads or campaign videos before. But as I was watching the video, I was pleasantly surprised as it was interesting to see which items they used and incorporated when showing household items used for pleasure. Overall, I thought the video was an awesome, creative way to sell their product while getting a couple laughs out of it too.
